MANUAL WHEEL CHAIRS

Wheelchairs are intended to provide people with comfort and independence after their movement has been either compromised or become impossible due to illnesses, injuries, disabilities, or simply aging. For those with either limited or no mobility at all, a wheelchair can make an incredible difference in their quality of life.

STANDARD OR SELF-PROPELLED WHEELCHAIRS

Standard manual wheelchairs are the most frequently used wheelchair. They are used by those with sufficient upper extremity function that can safely self-propel the wheelchair. Standard wheelchairs weigh around 35 lbs., have a seat width and depth between 16 and 20 inches, and have fixed or detachable armrests. Almost all standard wheelchairs can support up to 250 lbs.

TRANSPORT CHAIRS

A transport wheelchair is designed to only be propelled by another individual. These chairs have four small wheels instead of two small and two large. They come in different widths and weight capacities and are usually the same basic frame as a standard manual wheelchair.

HIGH STRENGHT LIGHTWEIGHT CHAIRS

Lightweight manual wheelchairs give you the most independence of movement with the least amount of effort. This type of wheelchair is recommended for someone who cannot self-propel in a standard manual wheelchair. The weight of this type wheelchair ranges from 28-34 pounds

RECLINING WHEELCHAIRS

Reclining Wheelchairs allow patients to recline at different angles, rather than sitting up straight at all times. These are often helpful for patients recovering from surgeries, and elderly and pediatric patients with posture issues.

BARIATRIC/HEAVY DUTY WHEELCHAIRS

Bariatric wheelchairs are designed for maximum strength and weight capacity. These chairs tend to be heavier and wider.

Bariatric chairs accommodate more than just the weight requirements of bariatric patients, but consider width, length, and depth requirements as well. With these variables in consideration bariatric wheelchairs can meet the needs of every bariatric patient.
